Vietnam, Cambodia combat drug crimes together

Vietnam’s southern province of Tay Ninh and Cambodia ’s provinces of Kampong Cham and Svay Rieng have struck a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in trans-border drug prevention and control.

The signatories were Deputy Chairmanof the Tay Ninh People’s Committee Tran Luu Quang and Vice Governors ofthe two Cambodian localities.

Under thedocument, the trio will continue coordinate in preventing andcontrolling the transport and trafficking of narcotic drug, psychotropicsubstances and drug precursors.

They willmaintain regular information exchanges on drug-related crimes so as topromptly detect, stop and arrest cross-border drug traffickers, as wellas popularise narcotic prevention among the masses.

In addition to annually reviewing how the coordination work ispanning out, local authorities along the Vietnam-Cambodia shared bordervow to create favourable conditions for each other to work in the field.

From October 2011 to the same month this year,the Tay Ninh police and border forces dealt with 16 cases, seizing over21,000 kg of synthetic drug and 1,100 kg of heroin, noted DeputyChairman Quang.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
