Kuala Lumpur (VNA)⭕ –Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan has called on Asian countries and parties to show their sense of responsibility for peace, stability and prosperity in the region, which is facing various security and development challenges.
The official made the appeal at the ninth General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 1-4.
He stressed the need to resolve disputes relating to sovereignty and territory by peaceful measures in line with international law and with respect for diplomatic and legal processes, and implement agreements and mechanisms effectively in order to prevent conflicts.
Quan also called for efforts to enhance infrastructure connectivity, narrow development gaps, protect the environment, cope with climate change and increase people-to-people exchanges.
The nine ICAPP General Assembly brought together more than 300 delegates from 89 political parties of 35 Asian countries and observers from parties and organisations in and outside the region.
Themed “One Asia,” the event sought ways to build an Asia of peace, unity in diversity, cooperation and prosperity.
Participants touch upon challenges faced by the region like poverty, environmental pollution, climate change, nuclear weapons, terrorism, extremism, territorial conflicts and disputes, particularly those in the East Sea and East China Sea.
They appealed to relevant sides to step up dialogues and cooperation, exercise restraint, not use force or threaten to use force, and address disputes peacefully with respect for international law.
The General Assembly adopted the Kuala Lumpur Declaration affirming the parties’ commitments to the goal of building “One Asia” of peace and prosperity.
On the sidelines of the event, the Vietnamese delegation had meetings with the participating parties to exchange information and discuss measures to boost their cooperation. They also held talks with leaders of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) of Malaysia.-VNA
