Vietnam Calculator 2050 to support energy policy making

At the event,held by the Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment Agency underthe Ministry of Industry and Trade, participants discussed in detail howto adapt the tool to the Vietnamese context.

According toHoang Van Tam from the agency, Calculator 2050 is an open-source toolused to identify to what extent renewable energy sources can meet acountry’s demand for energy, and how to improve the quality of air.

It also plays an important role in achieving sustainable development and mitigating climate change, he said.

Vietnam Calculator 2050, scheduled to be completed by the end of thisyear, is being developed by the UK’s Department of Energy andClimate Change (DECC).

Calculator 2050 won a number of awardsin the UK for its ability to engage policy-makers and the public inthe reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. China, India, SouthAfrica and Japan have also developed their own national models.

UK Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Holt said Calculator 2050 willhelp Vietnam develop policies on energy supply and demand, andeliminate greenhouse gas emissions, adding that the UK is delighted tosupport Vietnam in this field.

At the workshop,participants also gave presentations on related topics such asgreenhouse gas emission scenarios for 2050, socio-economic development,and energy consumption in buildings and industries.-VNA

Vietn♛am ramps up plastic waste recycling, re🤪use, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
