Vietnam bags six golds at world weightlifting event

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam won six gold medals at the 2019International Weightlifting Federation World Cup in Fuzhou, China over theweekend.

Lai Gia Thanh pocketed three gold medals in the men’s 55kg in the snatch, clean& jerk and total lift with results of 116kg, 145kg and 261kg.

Thanh, 19, was world silver medallist in the 55kg behind Om Yun Chol of the DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea.

Vuong Thi Huyen dominated in the women’s 45kg category with two gold medals inthe clean & jerk and total lift. The gold medal in the snatch went to KhongMy Phuong.

In the men’s 61kg, Thach Kim Tuan won silver with a total lift of 295, a bronzein the snatch with 135kg, and a bronze in the clean & jerk with 160kg. Thegold medal went to Eko Yili Irawan of Indonesia.

Vietnam sent 13 athletes to the event which is one of six mandatory tournamentsthat athletes must take part in to collect points for Tokyo 2020 Olympicsberths.-VNA
