Manila (VNA) – The special meeting of the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices(CACJ) took place in Manila, the Philippines, on October 27.

Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court ofVietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh attended the event at the invitation of Chief Justiceof the Supreme Court of the Philippines Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno.

President of the CACJ and Chief Justice of theSupreme Court of Brunei Haji Kifli highlighted the increasing role of the CACJto ASEAN connectivity and held that it is necessary to boost cooperationbetween courts of the ASEAN member countries to develop the ASEAN Community.

Participants heard the outcomes of the firstsession of the Forum of Entities Associated with ASEAN held by the ASEANSecretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia, on May 4.

Chief Justice of the ASEAN countries discussed anumber of important issues such as building the chapter and refining theinstitution of CACJ as an entity of ASEAN connectivity in addition toestablishing cooperative relations between court portals of the ASEAN countriesand ASEAN legal information portals to promote bilateral and multilateralcooperation in judicial training and education.

They also ratified and adopted an action plan ofASEAN working groups in the coming time.

Delegates agreed to host the sixth conference ofthe CACJ in the Philippines in July 2018.

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
