– The advantage healthcare fair and an international conferenceon value of medical tourism opened in India’s Uttar Pradesh state on December4.

Organised by the Federation of Indian Chambersof Commerce & Industry (FICCI), the event drew more than 200 internationalbusinesses, mainly from Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and SouthAsia.

Representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry ofHealth, hospitals, medical establishments, tourism trade promotion centres, andtravel companies participated in the fair.

On display were equipment, technologies, andservices for both medical research, teaching, and examinations, as well as formanufacturing pharmaceutical products.

A roundtable conference between delegates andbusinesses of participating countries and the Indian Minister of Health will beheld as part of the event to discuss the value of medical travel and itsprospects.

It also presents anopportunity to sign cooperation agreements between Indian agencies andenterprises with foreign partners.

International delegates will also have anopportunity to visit some hospitals in India to study their infrastructure andquality of medical examinations and treatment.

Medical tourism has been emerging as one of thefastest growing fields in the tourism sector. 

According to a report by the FICCI and IMSHealth – an American company that provides information, services, andtechnology for the healthcare industry – India is one of the most attractivemedical travel destinations in Asia with the treatment of over 500,000 foreignpatients.

India could gross 9 billion USD in revenue fromthis segment in 2020 and its government is aiming to turn the country into aglobal healthcare hub.–VNA
