Vietnam urgently requests China to immediately put an end to itsconstruction projects on Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and refrainfrom repeating illegal activities in the future.

Foreign MinistrySpokesman Le Hai Binh made the request on November 6 in response toChina’s illegal construction projects on Chu Thap (Fiery Cross) Reef, part of Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago.

“Vietnamhas full legal and historical evidence proving its sovereignty over thetwo archipelagos of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa,” he affirmed.

China’s above-mentioned activities seriously violate Vietnam’ssovereignty over Truong Sa, infringe international law and run counterto the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), aswell as the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement ofsea-related issues between the two countries, he said.

They upset the status quo, cause tensions and complicate the situationfurther, harming peace and stability in the region, he added.

“Vietnam resolutely opposes these illegal acts and demands the Chineseside respect its sovereignty and strictly observe the DOC,” Binhreiterated.

That same day, representatives of theForeign Ministry met with representatives of the Chinese Embassy inHanoi to present the note of opposition.-VNA
