Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam was ranked47th among over 127 economies surveyed in the global innovationindex (GII) report 2017, the highest ranking to date, up 12 places compared tolast year’s report. 🅰 [Vietnam up 12 places in Global Innovation Index]
The Ministry of Science and Technology(MoST) held a conference discussing the ranking in Hanoi on July 13.
As heard at the function, Vietnam’s GIItopped the 27 lower-middle income countries on the list and was ranked third amongASEAN member states, behind Singapore and Malaysia.
In comparison with the 2016 report, Vietnamclimbed 8 places in innovation input sub-index ranking, with improvementrecorded in the categories of macro institutions, human capital and research,infrastructure, and market sophistication.
The country also went up 4 places in the innovationoutput sub-index ranking in both knowledge-technology and creative outputs.
Speaking at the conference, MoST DeputyMinister Tran Quoc Khanh attributed the outcomes to efforts made by the Party,Government and public agencies at different levels with technological supportfrom the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
He said the country needs to continueimproving innovation index in terms of business climate, capital market and investment,and knowledge-technologies application, adding that enterprises are at the centreof the national innovative system.
The GII report is annually co-published bythe WIPO, US-based Cornell University and France-based INSEAD business school.It uses about 79 indicators to gauge both innovative capabilities andmeasurable results.-VNA

VietNEST (Vietnamese Nurturing Education for Science & Traditions) is a mobile app and digital platform for Vietnamese language learning among overseas children.

The visit aimed to assess the new two-tier local government model, preparations for upcoming Party congresses at levels, and implementation of the Politburo’s Conclusion on school construction in border areas.
Under the theme “Breakthrough Era with the Development of Industrial Internet”, the event gathered over 400 delegates, including senior officials, leading Internet experts, and technology engineers from Vietnam and abroad.
