Vietnam Airlines, university provide aeronautical training

The Vietnam Airlines Corporation, its member, Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO), and the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) have inked an agreement to launch a Bachelor Programme on Aeronautics and a Master Programme on International Air Transport Operation Management.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Airlines Corporation, its member,Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO), and the University of Science andTechnology of Hanoi (USTH) have inked an agreement to launch a BachelorProgramme on Aeronautics and a Master Programme on International Air TransportOperation Management.

Under the deal, the USTH will work with Vietnam Airlines in carry outintroduction and enrollment for the programmes. The university will prepare facilities,lecturers and programme operation.

Vietnam Airlines committed to annually recruiting 30 graduates of the bachelorprogramme to work at the VAECO during 2018-2022. It will send qualified staffto attend the master programme at the USTH.

Trainees of the two programmes will be provided with sufficient studyingmaterials, while European and Vietnamese lecturers as well as programmecoordinators will be facilitated travel between Paris (France) and Hanoi during2018-2023.

At the signing ceremony on December 15, Duong Tri Thanh, General Director ofthe Vietnam Airlines Corporation, highlighted that the company is working todevelop its aeronautical staff due to the aircraft fleet’s growth.

Vietnam Airlines expects sound cooperation with the USTH which forms a basisfor the country to become the regional leading aircraft maintenance centre,Thanh highlighted.

Patrick Boiron, USTH Rector, said that the university targets to become anexcellent technical training centre in the region, which can providehigh-quality human resources to meet Vietnam’s socio-economic development, andaeronautics is billed as key training programme of the university.

According to the International Air Transport Association, between 2015 and2035, Vietnam is among the five fastest growing aviation markets in the world.From 2012-2016, the number of domestic passengers grew more than 130 percent to28 million last year. Vietnam Airlines recently welcomed its 200 millionthpassenger after more than two decades of operation.

The increasing demand for air travel has resulted in more employmentopportunities in the sector. However, Vietnam’s aviation industry has only met40 percent of human resources. The USTH is one of the few universities providingworkforce for this industry, helping domestic airlines reduce expensive costsof hiring foreign workers.-VNA
