Hanoi (VNA)💙 – Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga has emphasised the country’s close coordination in promoting human rights and implementing sustainable development at a United Nations debate on human rights on July 12-13.

“As the member of the Human Rights Council and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Vietnam will continue our efforts, together with all partners, to further promote human rights and to advance the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) to ensure that no one will be left behind,” said Ambassador Nga, who is Permanent Representative of the Vietnamese mission to the UN. She affirmed Vietnam has strived its best to preserve an environment of peace, stability, sustainable development and prosperity, and at the same time, to ensure the enjoyment of human rights for our people.
“We have recorded important achievements in implementing MDGs, in promoting a higher living standard and human rights in all economic, social, cultural and political domains,” the diplomat added. The high-level discussion was the third and last session of a chain of thematic debates under the UN General Assembly President’s initiative. The two debates on SDGs and peace and security took place in April and May this year In her speech, Ambassador Nga stressed States have the primary responsibility in advancing the universal goal of full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms by all, particularly by implementing the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights these Covenants and the Declaration on the Rights to Development in a holistic and balanced manner, while bearing in mind that the realisation of human rights should take into account of the diversity of historical, social, cultural and development backgrounds.
She highlighted the central role in this regard played by the UN and its bodies, as well as the Human Rights Council with the Universal Periodic Review, which has proven to be essential in facilitating dialogue and cooperation among member states. It is important to emphasise that human rights, peace and stability and development are intertwined and indivisible, she said, adding while peace, stability and development lay solid foundations for the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the realisation of human rights is essential to ensure peace and stability and to achieve sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development mainstreams human rights, including the right to development, and elimination of inequality across all goals and targets, giving priority to vulnerable groups of women, children, older persons and persons with disabilities.
“By implementing this transformative Agenda, we also address the root causes of insecurity and conflict, which the world is now facing,” she affirmed.-VNA
