Vietnam actively participates in gender equality

National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan highlighted Vietnam’s effort in promoting gender equality as well as women’s wide-ranging participation in social life at the closing ceremony of the World Assembly for Women (WAW) in Tokyo, Japan on August 29. 

In her speech, the official told participants that Vietnam issued and actively implemented the National Strategy on Gender Equality for 2011-2020 along with strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation on the issue.

She praised the WAW 2015 as a significant event demonstrating the Japanese Government’s interest in encouraging women’s higher social involvement.

✃ The two-day WAW event, the second of its kind held in Japan, attracted the participation of about 1,300 delegates, including 140 leaders from 40 countries, territories and international organisations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent a message indicating a society where women shine and hold positions of leadership, and encouraging women’s active participation in various aspects of life.

He also pledged that Japan will spend more than 42 billion JPY (347 million USD) in official development assistance over the next three years to promote women’s role in all over the world.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
