Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Le Ba Trinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on August 18 for a delegation of 35 prestigious Khmer residents from the southern province of Tra Vinh. The VFF leader praised the senior citizens’ role as a bridge to disseminate the Party and State’s laws and policies and report public aspirations to the Party, State and VFF.
He also took the occasion to urge Khmer residents – almost all followers of Theravada Buddhism – to fulfill both their civic and religious duties and maintain ethnic identity. Kim Hong Danh, deputy head of the provincial Ethnic Department updated the host on the local socio-economic development and the outcomes of Party and State policies on ethnic affairs.
Khmer community in Tra Vinh mostly lives on agriculture, he said, adding that the province now has a facelift thanks to road infrastructure enhancements. Khmer guests, for their part, urged the VFF Central Committee to ask for more State incentives benefiting ethnic minority groups.-VNA
