Hanoi (VNA) – Numerous activities tosupport disadvantaged people across the nation will be launched in the 2019Month for Humanitarian Activities.

This year’s programme,themed “Connecting, Sharing, and Spreading”, will see the Vietnam Red CrossSociety (VRCS) play a key role in mobilising and connecting millions of peopleto share with and provide opportunities for disadvantaged people.

It will start on May 1 and run through until May 31, with peak dates fromMay 8 (International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day) to May 19 (birthday ofPresident Ho Chi Minh, the first Honorary President of the VRCS).

The programme aimsto further enhance public awareness and strengthen the Party’s leadership in andthe State’s management over humanitarian works. It is also designed to deepenand further spread positive values and traditions of humanity amongstVietnamese people.

Through theprogramme, the VRCS aims to encourage participation in humanitarian activities amongstagencies, organisations, and individuals, as well as strengthen fundraisingactivities at the localities to support humanitarian causes, contributing tothe building of great national unity and a community of solidarity and mutualsupport.

During the programme,a series of meaningful activities will be conducted such as the handover of fundsupport for people to improve their livelihood and housing, free health checksand medicine deliveries, humanitarian blood donation recruitment, first aid knowledgeand skills training, among others.

Last year saw the VRCS pilotinga humanitarian month in a number of cities and provinces before making it anationwide activity this year.–VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
