USAID supports Vietnam to forge community links in HIV prevention
The Prime Minister has approved a non-refundable aid package from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to strengthen community links in HIV prevention.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Prime Ministerhas approved a non-refundable aid package from the US Agency for InternationalDevelopment (USAID) to strengthen community links in HIV prevention.
The project will be carried out in the southerneconomic hub of Ho Chi Minh City worth 2.1 million USD in official developmentassistance (ODA), which aims to enhance community-based services to support asustainable national HIV/AIDS response.
Its specific targets include providing HIV/AIDSprevention services for homosexual men and women and people living with HIV inthe city, as well as increase human resources and capacity for community-basedgroups and organisations (CBOs).
Within five years, the project will access toabout 48,299 homosexual men in the city through CBOs, nearly 90 percent of whomwill be sent to HIV testing facilities.
The project strives to have 90 percent of peopleliving with HIV know their status, while 90 percent of people who are diagnosedwith HIV will receive antiretroviral drugs (ARV), and 90 percent of people on ARVtreatment will have the virus controlled at a low and stable level.
It will also support about 3,633 people livingwith HIV along with 38,337 prostitutes and drug users in the city.-VNA
The 90-90-90 Plan, which aims to end the AIDS epidemic in Vietnam by 2020 under a HIV prevention programme initiated by the United Nations, will be piloted in five localities from 2017-2015.
The numbers of HIV carriers, AIDS patients and AIDS-related deaths in Vietnam have decreased for the eighth consecutive year in 2015 thanks to great effort in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care.

After more than three weeks of intensive treatment, the patient's pneumonia improved, breathing stabilised, sedation was reduced, and the breathing tube was removed. He is now conscious, able to eat orally, and in recovery.
