US servicemen’s remains repatriated

A repatriation ceremony for remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was held at Noi Bai International Airport on December 6.

Attending the event were representatives from theBoard of Directors of Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel(VNOSMP) and representatives from the US Embassy in Hanoi, the USDefense Attache Office, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) andthe US MIA Office in Hanoi.

The Vietnamese side’srepresentative handed over to the US side two boxes of remains whichwere recovered during the 117 th Joint Field Activities from Octoberto December, 2014.

The remains had been jointly reviewed andconcluded by Vietnam and US forensic specialists that they might beassociated with the US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnamand will be brought to Hawaii for further review.

Addressingat the ceremony, the US Government representative expressed deepgratitude to and high appreciation for the steadfast humanitarianpolicy, goodwill and the increasingly efficient cooperation of theVietnam Government and people.

The seeking of the remains of USservicemen missing during the war in Vietnam is humanitariancooperation between the two Governments. This is the 133 th hand-overof American missing servicemen’s remains since 1973.-VNA
