HCM City (VNA) – Politburomember and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhanhosted a reception on April 20 for a US Senate delegation, led by Senator PatrickLeahy, Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
Vietnam and the US are carryingout a series of activities in the lead up to the 25th foundinganniversary of diplomatic relations in 2020, Nhan said, adding that the twonations have engaged in multifaceted cooperation and made efforts for mutualdevelopment.
The official said, on his position,he has worked to boost bilateral cooperative ties in the fields of education,science, and technology.
Nhan expressed his appreciationfor the efforts of the US in general and Leahy in particular, in the settlementof war aftermath in Vietnam, including Agent Orange/dioxin-related issues.
Regarding the matter of energy,Nhan informed his guests that Vietnam has yet to widely use renewable energylike wind or solar power in the daily life partly due to their high costs.
He said the country is hopingthat there will soon be solutions to boosting the use of renewable energy in thedaily life and production.
For his part, Leahy said thecurrent trip helps his delegation understand more about Vietnam, and as such,know what should be done to propel the bilateral collaboration forward.
He noted that to solve the issueof energy and other matters, the most important thing is the way of cooperationbetween the two sides.-VNA
