Hanoi (VNA) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met IndonesianForeign Minister Retno Marsudi on October 29 to discuss issues of sharedconcern.
ꦇ Speaking at a joint pressconference in Jakarta, Marsudi said she called for greater economic cooperationand encouraging US firms to invest more in the country during talks.
Pompeo, for his part,suggested US enterprises increase investment in Indonesia, especially indigital technology, energy and infrastructure. On the East Sea issue, theUS Secretary of State expressed wish to cooperate with Indonesia in a new wayto ensure maritime security in one of the world’s busiest trade routes. The Indonesian ForeignMinister also wished to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea whereinternational law needs to be respected. According to her, the two countries willenhance defence cooperation via promoting military training, intelligence information sharing and maritime security.
During a meeting with the US guest,Indonesian President Joko Widodo also expressed wish to bolster bilateral economicties.
🐓 Earlier, Pompeo visited India, Sri Lankaand Maldives as part of his five-day Asia trip. After concluding his Indonesia visit, he is scheduled to arrive in Vietnam on October 29./.
