US businesses keen on investing in Vietnam

Minister of Industry and Trade, Vu Huy Hoang made the comment to aUS-based reporter of Vietnam News Agency after chairing a forum entitled“Investment opportunities in Vietnam – Energy and Finance”, jointlyorganised by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), theVietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the US Chamber of Commercein Washington on September 15.

Attending the event werealmost 60 representatives from a wide range of sectors, from public andresearch agencies such as the US Department of State, the Department ofCommerce, the US – ASEAN Business Council, the Centre for Strategic andInternational Studies, to big names in oil and gas, finance, energy andtechnology like Shell Oil, Exxon Mobil, Chevron Corporations,Citigroup, HSBC, General Electric, Honeywell and Tangible.

The forum was vivid evidence of the fine relations between Vietnam andUS as well as an opportunity to draw stronger US investment in Vietnam’senergy sector, minister Hoang said.

Regarding thecooperation deal signed between PetroVietnam and McKinsey & Companyat the event, Hoang said that if successful, the agreement would helpPetroVietnam seek financial resources from the US businesses to developits projects, including projects on oil and gas survey and exploitation,and power generation./.
