Jakarta (VNA) - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Indonesia said it is committed to continuing support for Indonesia in promoting global climate action to reduce emissions.
Dr. Aretha Aprilia, head of the Environment Unit, UNDP Indonesia, said the partnership with the Indonesian government will focus on the utilisation of innovative financing, capacity building and policies coherence aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Indonesia has been a pioneer in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) since 2007, when it hosted the 13th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP13) in Bali.
According to Dr. Joko Tri Haryanto, President Director of the Indonesian Environment Fund, said Indonesia has also strengthened its national REDD+ architecture, including aligning the REDD+ National Strategy (STRANAS) with the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets, enhancing the Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL), and integrating safeguard frameworks to ensure equitable benefit sharing from REDD+ initiatives.
