Two died, seven injured in northern landslide

Two people died and seven others were injured during a landslide in the northern province of Yên Bái’s Trạm Tấu district on late September 3.

Yen Bai (VNA) - Two peopledied and seven others were injured during a landslide in the northern provinceof Yen Bai’s Tram Tau district on late September 3.

The two deceased are Vang Thi Phenh, 49,and eight-month-old Hang Thi Dinh, both from Tong Ngoai town.

The injured locals were taken to theprovince’s Nghia Lo General Hospital, some 40km away from the town, foremergency treatment.

The district’s authorities rushed to thescene right after the incident to direct the clean-up of the landslide andvisit the affected households.

Financial support of 5.4 million VND (238USD) was given to families of each of the deceased and 2.7 million VND (119 USD)was granted to families of those injured.

On the morning of the same day, one localwas struck by lighting and died in the province’s Cam Nhan commune.

Torrential downpour ravaged the province’swest side all day. The province’s authorities issued warnings asking residentsto avoid going near the river and streams or seek shelter under large treesduring rain and lightning.

Heavy rainfall also hit northern Dien Bienprovince on September 3-4, causing a major landslide of 4,000cu.m on thestretch of National Route 279 running through the province’s Muong Angdistrict.-VNA
