Hanoi (VNA) – There were 797 traffic accidentsnationwide from December 15, 2022 to January 14, 2023, killing 508 people andinjuring 505 others, reported Chief of the Office of the National TrafficSafety Committee Tran Huu Minh on January 30.
Compared to the same period last year, the numbers of accidents, fatalities and wounded victims were down 17.75%, 10.88% and 14.26%,respectively.
On roads, 790 accident cases claimed 505 lives and left 504others injured, representing respective decreases of 17.62%, 10.3% and 14.29%.
Meanwhile, seven railway accidents killed three people andinjured one. Year-on-year, the numbers of cases and injured people were unchangedwhile that of fatalities was down by two.

Twenty six traffic accidents occurred nationwide on December 31 - the first day of the 2023 New Year holidays (December 31-January 2), killing 14 people and injuring 11 others, according to the Ministry of Public Security’s Traffic Police Department.
Eighty-three traffic accidents happened in the three days of the New Year, killing 50 people and injuring 51 others, an increase of 29.7%, 31.6% and 45.7%, respectively, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
