Hanoi (VNA) - The number of traffic accidentsand traffic-related deaths and injuries dropped in the first five months of2020.
According to the Office Chief of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Nguyen Trong Thai,a total of 5,508 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 2,667 peopleand injuring 3,965 others.
The number of traffic accidents, death andinjuries fell by 18.75 percent, 14.74 percent and 24.53 percent, respectively,compared with the same period last year.
Among the accidents, 3,069 happened on roads, claiming 2,603 lives and injuring1,536 others. Meanwhile, 36 people were killed and seven others were injured in36 accidents on railways.
In January – May, 32 accidents occurred on waterways, killing 31 and injuringfour others. Five s👍ea accidents were reported in the reviewed period, claimingt🐬wo lives./.
The numbers of traffic accidents and related deaths and injured cases plunged in November, helping to drag the 11-month figures down from the same period last year, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.
A total of 1,300 traffic accidents occurred nationwide in the month to January 14, which killed 591 people and injured 968 others, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety.
A total of 2,368 traffic accidents occurred nationwide from December 15 to February 14, killing 1,125 people and injuring 1,781 others, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
