Japan-based Toshiba Corporation and the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC) celebrated 10 years of the Toshiba scholarship on September 11. On the occasion, Toshiba awarded 20 scholarships to the university’s outstanding postgraduates, including four full scholarships worth 200,000 JPY (1,657 USD) each and 16 others worth 100,000 JPY (828.5 USD) each.
In his remarks at the celebration ceremony, VNU-HCMC Vice President Duong Anh Duc said the Toshiba scholarship programme has contributed to developing young talents and improving human resources for the country, thus propelling economic growth. For his part, Japanese Vice Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Yoshinori Yakabe highlighted the growing economic ties between the two countries with the increasing volume of Japanese firms in Vietnam.
The firms have played a vital role in developing Vietnam and strengthening the bilateral relationship, he added, hoping that the scholarship recipients would study hard for the future of Vietnam and bilateral ties with Japan. Launched in 2005, the programme has granted scholarships to more than 400 postgraduates at the VNU-HCMC and VNU Hanoi.-VNA
