Hanoi (VNA) – The official visit of National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Uzbekistan will mark a significant step in strengthening political trust and laying the groundwork for enhanced bilateral cooperation, Shoumarov Dilshod Shavkatovich, a member of the political council of the ruling Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party (UzLiDeP), told the Vietnam News Agency.

Shavkatovich expressed confidence in Vietnam as a reliable partner in Asia and commended the growing bilateral trade volume and joint projects in sectors such as food processing, agriculture, and aquaculture. He also highlighted the increasing number of tourists traveling between the two countries, reflecting mutual cultural interest.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on January 17, 1992, Vietnam and Uzbekistan have maintained a strong and effective partnership. They have established mechanisms for political consultations at the deputy foreign minister level and for economic, trade, and sci-tech cooperation through a joint council at the deputy trade minister level.

This visit marks the first-ever by a Vietnamese NA Chairman to Uzbekistan since the two nations set up diplomatic ties, Shavkatovich stressed.

Regarding legislative relations, he noted that parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Vietnam has been progressing positively. In 2023, Uzbekistan’s parliament established a friendship group with Vietnam, strengthening inter-parliamentary relations. He expressed hope that the Vietnamese NA would establish a similar group.

The Uzbekistan official also underscored the importance of parliamentary involvement in resolving economic and trade issues, stressing the need to explore new avenues for collaboration in oil and gas, education and training, cultural exchange, tourism, and people-to-people connections.

𒅌 Praising the economic reforms led by the Communist Party of Vietnam, Shavkatovich acknowledged the body’s role in the country’s economic growth, global economic integration, and improvements in social equity and living standards. As a result, UzLiDeP is open to expanding cooperation within the sides’ framework for interactions, he stated./.
