Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Tran Thanh Man received a Russian delegation led by Vladimir Vladimirovich Yakushev, Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia Party (URP) and First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, in Hanoi on September 2.

The delegation is in Vietnam to attend the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of Vietnam (September 2, 1945–2025).

The host thanked his guest for attending activities within the celebration, describing this as a vivid demonstration of the Vietnam – Russia friendship and of Russia’s recognition and respect for the Vietnamese people’s achievements in the past struggle for national liberation, and current national construction and development.

This also serves as an occasion to express gratitude to international friends, including the people of the former Soviet Union and today's Russian Federation, for their support, Chairman Man said, affirming that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam extremely treasure the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, and always view Russia as one of Vietnam’s most important partners.

The Russian official expressed his pleasure at visiting Vietnam and sincerely thanked the Vietnamese side for the warm and respectful reception for the delegation.

He voiced his admiration for and congratulated Vietnam on the successful celebration of the 80th August Revolution and National Day anniversary, praising Vietnam as a typical example in the fight for national liberation from the colonial rule in the 20th century and a resilient, dynamic, peaceful, faithful, and developing nation in a changing world today.

Discussing bilateral relations, the two legislative bodies’ leaders expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress achieved recently, especially since Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to Russia in May this year.

The two sides agreed that political ties have been strengthened through all-level mutual visits and meetings. Meanwhile, the relationship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the ruling URP has been deepened thanks to regular delegation exchanges and enhanced party-to-party meetings.

Cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges has also recorded significant strides. Many bottlenecks in collaboration have been resolved, and the two sides are actively promoting key cooperation projects across sectors, they said.

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the two sides agreed that the relationship between the Vietnamese and Russian parliaments has expanded through increased bilateral activities, delegation exchanges, and more effective and practical activities between parliamentary committees and parliamentary friendship groups. They also reached agreement on key measures for further strengthening parliamentary ties in the near future.

At the meeting, NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh briefed the Russian delegation on key aspects of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, their coordination at multilateral parliamentary forums, and recent activities of the Vietnam – Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group. Some directions for future collaboration were also proposed.
