Thanh Hoa (VNA) – Policein the north central province of Thanh Hoa have decided to launch criminalproceedings against a blogger for defaming Party and State leaders.
Chief of the provincial policeoffice, Col. Tran Trung Hieu said on December 18 that Nguyen Danh Dung will bedetained for three month on charge of taking advantage of freedom and democracyrights to infringe upon interests of the State, legitimate rights and interestsof individuals and organisations as stipulated in Article 258 of the CriminalCode.
Since October 2015, Dung has launchedand run ThienAn TV channel on Youtube, Thien An and quachthienan pages onFacebook and a blog named “tinhhinhdatnuocvietnam”, on which, he published 700 videoclips that distorted, fabricated, blackened and defamed Party and Stateleaders.
He admitted that he collected andedited contents from reactionary websites and social media, added ThienAn TVlogo and adjusted his accent to attract viewers.
Blogger Truong Duy Nhat was sentenced to two years in prison for “Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon interests of the State, legitimate rights and interests of organisations and/or citizens” at a trial in the central city of Da Nang on March 4.
Hanoi blogger Pham Viet Dao has been sentenced to a 15-month imprisonment after pleading guilty to abusing his rights to freedom and democracy in order to infringe upon State interests, rights and legitimate interests of organisations or citizens under Article 258 of the Penal Code.

A 21-year-old Indian tourist was successfully resuscitated and treated by doctors at Hoan My Da Nang Hospital after a near-drowning incident left him in critical condition. After three days of intensive care, the man was discharged from the hospital and has since returned to India.
