Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged the north central province of Thanh Hoa to continuously improve its strength and competitiveness, and strive for rapid and sustainable growth.

Attending the province’s 990th anniversaryon May 8, PM Phuc suggested Thanh Hoa should employ its heroic past and richtraditions as the basis of its impetus to grow into a prosperous, modern andcivilised locality.
He said that Thanh Hoa has been the originof several Vietnamese feudal dynasties, as well as the hometown of renownednational heroes who were still revered by Vietnamese people today such as TrieuThi Trinh, Le Hoan and Le Loi.
In modern history, late President Ho ChiMinh called Thanh Hoa the “capital of the revolutionary movement”, whichmanaged to balance both critical missions of building socialism in the northernregion and supplying resources to the battles against the Americans in thesouthern region, contributing significantly to the final victory in April 1975.
He also said 30 years since Doi Moi(renewal), Thanh Hoa has made impressive strides with many large-scale projectstransforming the province either finished or underway.
In the future, the province should focus onthe five pillars of growth – manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, healthcare,and urbanisation – and upgrades of local infrastructure with the Nghi SonEconomic Zone at its heart, Phuc stated.
The Government leader urged the province tospeed up the process of key projects that have major implications tosocio-economic development, including coastal roads, highways, tourism andairway infrastructure.
The province was asked to maintain effortsto step up administrative reform, improve its business and investmentenvironment and increase provincial competitiveness with the aim to enter top15 localities in terms of provincial competitiveness index.
At the ceremony, Secretary of theprovincial Party Committee Trinh Van Chien said that the province is strivingto obtain middle-income status by 2020 to balance its own expenditure-revenue,and then the province can contribute more to the State budget.
Chien also stated Thanh Hoa is expecting toclimb into the group of economically strong provinces by 2030.
