Thailand vows 7-20 pct gas emission reduction by 2020

Thailand has expressed its intention to reduce greenhouse gases in the energy and logistic sectors by 7-20 percent within 2020 in order to mitigate the effect of climate change and global warming.

The intention was made at the UN Climate Change Conference 2014 being held in Lima, Peru during 1-12 December 2014.

Thailand took part in two sub-conferences: the 12th session of theConference of the Parties (COP 20) and the 10th session of theConference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to theKyoto Protocol (CMP 10).

As the head of the Thai delegation tothe conference, Natural Resources and Environment Minister DapongRatanasuwan gave a speech to show that Thailand has paid greatattention to the issues and requested developed nations to take aleading role in reducing the greenhouse gas emission ahead of the nextconference to be held in 2015 in Paris, France.

Dapongalso presented the philosophy of sufficiency economy initiated by KingBhumibol Adulyadej as part of Thailand ’s national plan emphasisingthe balance between economic development and environmental conservation.

It is interesting to keep an eye on the stance of nations withlarge-scale economy, especially those of developing countries after theyvowed to give financial subsidy to low-income nations for dealing withthe global warming, he said.-VNA
