Thailand, US kick off CARAT 2017 joint military exercise

The Royal Thai Navy and the US Navy have kicked off the joint maritime exercise "Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training" (CARAT 2017) in Chonburi province of Thailand in an effort to enhance the tactical proficiency of both nations’ armed forces.

Bangkok (VNA/NNT) - The Royal Thai Navy and the US Navy have kicked off thejoint maritime exercise "Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training"(CARAT 2017) in Chonburi province of Thailand in an effort to enhance thetactical proficiency of both nations’ armed forces. 

RearAdmiral Donald D. Gabrielson of US Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacificand Deputy Chief of the Royal Thai Fleet Rear Admiral SomnukPrempramote jointlypresided over the opening ceremony of CARAT 2017 at the Royal Thai Fleet inSattahip district. 

The jointmaritime exercise includes training in seizure operations, joint flight operations,and communication drills. CARAT 2017 is meant to boost relations betweenThailand and the United States.

The exercise, which is being held until June 6, is the 23rd since its inceptionin 1995.-VNA

🔜 Thailand engages USTR on five-point trade proposal

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations.
