Thailand’s space research agency has announced its plan to send durian to space by July, as part of a project to produce Thai food to serve future space travel, according to BBC.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s space research agency has announced its planto send durian to space by July, as part of a project to produce Thai food toserve future space travel, according to BBC.

The baked durian will stay in space for a short time before coming back toEarth where the scientists will see if it has undergone any textural changes.

Although Thailand is not yet in the group of nations to have been to space, iteyes providing catering service for future trips.

A spokesman for the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency(GISTDA) said: “Our main goal is to eventually bring Thai food up to space tobe consumed by astronauts. For a start, we chose durian, which is the king offruits in Thailand”.

If the project is successful, they will bring other Thai dishes like pad Thaior mango sticky rice up to space for more tests, he added.

Durian is not the first regional delicacy to be sent into space. In 2008, anastronaut from the Republic of Korea brought renowned kimchi, a fermentedhomemade cabbage dish, along into space.-VNA
