Bangkok (VNA) - Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said that hisgovernment will not lift a ban on political activity until calm and order arerestored.
Prayuth made the statement in response to political parties, particularly thePheu Thai Party, who urged the government to remove the ban so that they canprepare for elections scheduled for November 2018.
However, the premier said that the ban will be lifted to allow parties to resumeactivities in compliance with the constitution and election-related laws.
Prayuth, who also serves as Chairman of the National Council for Peace andOrder (NCPO), confirmed that he will consider lifting the ban after peace andorder are fully restored. The Government will comply with the time frame of theelections.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said the NCPO has not yet metto discuss the ban removal as there are still attempts to stir up disturbances.However, political parties still have enough time to manage and proceed withtheir political activities.-VNA
