Thai PM nominated for premiership in general election
The Palang Pracharat Party of Thailand has nominated Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha as one of its three candidates for the premiership in the general election on March 24.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Palang Pracharat Party of Thailand has nominatedPrime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha as one of its three candidates for thepremiership in the general election on March 24.
Leader of the Palang Pracharat PartyUttama Savanayana and other members of this party met Prayuth Chan-o-chaat the governmental building to ask for his acceptance of the nomination.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Uttamacited Prayuth as saying that he will consider this invitation and give theanswer on February 8 – the deadline for parties to provide the candidate listto the Election Commission.
Parties in Thailand can nominate up to threecandidates for the premiership. The two other candidates of the PalangPracharat Party are Deputy PM Somkid Jatusripitak and party leaderUttama Savanayana.
Last week, the Election Commission announcedthat the general election will be held on March 24 to restore civilian rule.This will be the first general election in the country since the military coupin 2014.
The election also attracts the Pheu Thai Partyof ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra and the Democrat Party of former PM AbhisitVejjajiva.
Last month, the Thai junta lifted a ban on politicalactivities, allowing parties to organise election campaigns.-VNA
