Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Raksa Chart Party will obey a commandfrom King Maha Vajiralongkorn blocking the candidacy of Princess UbolratanaRajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi for prime minister, it said in a statementissued on February 9.

This is a dramatic reversal of the party, one day after nominating Ubolratanafor the position.

“ThaiRaksa Chart party complies with the royal command with loyalty to the king andall members of the royal family”, it said in a message to reporters.

Earlier, the princess accepted the nomination to run for prime minister in theMarch 24 general election under the ticket of the Thai Raksa Chart Party, whosemembers are relatives of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.However, King Maha Vajiralongkorn voiced his disapproval, saying the nominationis improper and unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, in an Instagram post on February 8, Princess Ubolratana affirmedthat she had relinquished all her royal titles and that she now lives as acommoner.

She said she wants to exercise her rights as an ordinary citizen by offeringher candidacy for prime minister.-VNA
