Thai Buddhist delegation on Vietnam visit to boost ties

A delegation of Buddhist An Nam sect and several Vietnamese Buddhists living in Thailand is on a visit to Vietnam from September 30-October 6.

Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation of Buddhist An Namsect and several Vietnamese Buddhists living in Thailand is on a visit to Vietnamfrom September 30 – October 6.

It is the second time the trip has been organised by the ForeignMinistry’s State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and the CentralCommittee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in order to strengthen theirBuddhism work.

Among over 60 guests, 40 are monks and nuns representing 21Vietnamese pagodas in Thailand.

In the south, the delegation discussed Buddhism work withthe VBS Central Committee, met with leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, held a workingsession with the executive board of Kien Giang provincial VBS, visited Sac TuTam Bao and Phat Quang pagodas in Kien Giang; Vinh Nghiem, Buu Quang andVietnam Quoc Tu pagodas, Quang Duc Buddhist Monastery, and Vietnam BuddhistAcademy in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the reception for the delegation, President of the VBS ExecutiveCouncil, Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon suggested that the VBS and Buddhist AnNam sect in Thailand should soon reach a memorandum of understanding onstrengthening friendship and cultural exchange, holding seminars andcooperating in Buddhist training.

Phra Promwachirayan, member of the Sangha Supreme Council ofThailand and head of the delegation, expressed his belief that friendshipbetween VBS and Thailand Buddhist Sangha, as well as ties between the twonations will thrive.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
