Hanoi (VNA) – Telecommunications hascontributed to the practical cooperation between Vietnam and Tanzania, ActingMinister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said on October 11.

The official made the statement while receivingTanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation AugustineMahiga in Hanoi.

Welcoming his guest, Hung expressed his delightover the development of the Vietnam and Tanzania relations.

The success of the telecommunication jointventure Halotel, the military-run telecom group Viettel’s Tanzanian hand, is aproof of the development and this serves as a motivation for other Vietnamesefirms to invest in Tanzania, he noted.

He thanked the Tanzanian Government and peoplefor creating favourable conditions for Halotel in the country and voiced hishope for continued support in the issuance of work and residence permits forlabourers. 

The host also suggested that the Tanzanian sideensure operation and safety of Halotel’s workers and assets, and support thejoint venture to improve its services.

In response, the Tanzanian minister affirmedthat Halotel has made contributions to Tanzania’s socio-economic development,especially for its nationwide coverage. 

Halotel has offered opportunities for Tanzanianpeople in poor rural and remote areas to access vast information source, thusraising their livelihood, he added.

At the meeting, both sides agreed to further expandcooperation in information and communications sector, especially to supportTanzania’s development in information and communication technologies (ICT) sothat the country will become an ICT centre in East Africa in the comingtime.-VNA
