Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign draws over 1 million youngsters
More than 1 million volunteer youngsters joined the three-month 2017 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, according to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee.
Lam Dong(VNA) – More than 1 million volunteer youngsters joined the three-month 2017 SummerYouth Volunteer Campaign, according to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’sCentral Committee.
The youths, who formed26,581 teams, took part in various programmes to support students during exams,as well as the needy in poor areas, especially coastal and island localities.
Especially, 706 peopleof 32 teams joined volunteer activities in Laos and Cambodia.
In summer 2017, the youngvolunteers helped repair nearly 3,000km of rural roads and more than 1,700houses and build nearly 800 bridges, while providing free health check-ups and medicineto 381,000 people, upgrading 1,762 playing grounds for children, and transferringtechnology to over 85,000 people.
Le Quoc Phong, FirstSecretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee and Presidentof the Vietnamese Students’ Association, said that the 2017 Summer YouthVolunteer Campaign reached all set targets.
On the occasion, theCentral Committee presented certificates of merit to 18 collectives and sixindividuals with outstanding contributions to the success of the campaign.-VNA
A line-up of voluntary activities including Green Summer and Red Flamboyant campaigns will be included in the 2016 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, which was launched in Nghe An province on May 29.
