Storm Pabuk causes downpours in southern Vietnamese provinces

Hanoi (VNA) – Rains continue to pour down in the southern provincesof Ca Mau and Kien Giang due to the impact of Storm Pabuk, although it is now headingaway towards the Gulf of Thailand.

The storm, the first to hit the East Seathis year, has also caused heavy rains in south-western provinces.

At 1pm on January 4, the storm’s eye was330km west-southwest of Tho Chu island in Kien Giang province. Wind velocitynear the eye reached up to 90 km per hour.

Over the next 24 hours, the storm isforecast to continue moving west-northwest at a speed of 15-20km per hour. At1pm on January 5, its eye is predicted to be 220km northwest of Thailand’sPhuket province.

The sea area in the southwest of the Gulfof Thailand is experiencing rough waves of up to 5m, while strong winds areseen on the waters from Ca Mau to Kien Giang. –VNA
