Hanoi (VNA)♒ – A state funeral was held at the National Funeral House in Hanoi on December 27 for General Nguyen Quyet, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the State Council, former Chairman of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, and former Deputy Minister of National Defence.
The ceremony was attended by leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front, and Ministry of National Defence, as well as family members.
Party General Secretary To Lam led a delegation of the Party Central Committee to pay tribute to the deceased.
Writing on the condolence book, Party General Secretary To Lam described General Nguyen Quyet as a steadfast communist who joined in leading Vietnam’s revolutionary, and a brilliant general of the Vietnam People’s Army.
State President Luong Cuong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, as well as leaders of ministries and localities, among others, also paid homage to General Nguyen Quyet.
General Nguyen Quyet passed away in Hanoi on September 23 due to serious illness at the age of 102.
With 85 years since his admission to the Party and over 65 years since joining in the revolution, General Nguyen Quyet devoted his whole life to the glorious cause of the Party and the nation. Throughout his career, he held many important leadership positions, from a soldier in the struggle for national liberation to key roles in the Fatherland construction and defence process. The General always fulfilled the duties entrusted to him by the Party, the State, the Army, and the people with distinction.
A burial service for General Nguyen Quyet took place at 3:30 pm at Mai Dich Cemetery in Hanoi the same day./.
A respect-paying ceremony in the national mourning etiquette was solemnly held for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi, the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City, and his hometown in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi, on July 25.
A State-level funeral will be held for Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, who passed away on August 22 night at his home in Hai Phong city after a period of illness.
Addressing the meeting, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at meeting a large number of Vietnamese living and working in the RoK, acknowledging and appreciating their efforts in contributing to the growing Vietnam–RoK partnership.
He also welcomed the “Vietnam Private Sector Panorama” as a platform for dialogue, awareness-raising, and inspiring a wealth-creation movement, emphasising that it must deliver tangible results.
During a meeting on August 10 in Seoul with 100 representatives from the RoK’s intellectuals, associations, people’s organisations, businesses, and non-governmental organisations operating in Vietnam, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his gratitude to Korean friendship, economic, cultural associations, universities, research institutes, individuals, and NGOs for their significant contributions to nurturing the Vietnam–RoK relationship.
