Spokeswoman notes Foreign Ministry’s moves to help recover cashew containers from suspected scam in Italy

Hanoi (VNA) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang gave more details about how Vietnam reclaimed cashew nut containers that its exporters previously lost control of in Italy.
Talking to reporters at the ministry’s regular press meeting on June 23, she said the Ministry of Industry and Trade had provided information about this issue on June 20. For the Foreign Ministry’s part, under the Prime Minister’s directions, it coordinated closely with relevant ministries and sectors to examine, clarify causes, and assist the domestic companies concerned to deal with the case.
She noted the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy also worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development, financial police, and related agencies in Italy to promote the settlement and minimise losses to Vietnamese firms.
All the cashew nut containers involved in the suspected scam in Italy have been returned to their Vietnamese owners, Hang added./.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang has spoken about actions taken by the Government to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese enterprises in the suspected cashew nut export scam involving 100 containers of Vietnamese cashew nuts exported to Italy.
As of April 3, Vietnamese companies had recovered 12 out of 35 containers of cashew nuts exported to Italy whose original documents was lost, a positive progress thanks to great efforts and active support of relevant parties.
Vietnam shipped a total of 105,000 tonnes of cashew nuts abroad in Q1, earning 630 million USD, down 6.7 percent in volume and 5 percent in value compared to those in the same period of last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
The last of the 35 cashew nut containers, the original documents of which were claimed by Vietnamese exporters to be missing because of a suspected scam, have been ultimately released under an Italian court rule.
The ownership of all 100 cashew nut containers related to a suspected scam in Italy has returned to Vietnamese businesses, according to the Vietnamese Trade Office in the European country.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
