HCM City (VNA) – The Spanish Government pledges to provide financial assistance for HoChi Minh City to develop one more metro line, said an official from Spain’s Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MEIC).
During a working session with HMC City’s officials on January 24, Jose Kaiser Moreiras, Director General for International Tradeand Investment Department under the MEIC, stressed hiscountry has experience in technology application, constructional design, transportinfrastructure development and relevant consultancy.
HCM City needs to plan a comprehensive metro line system, he said, adding that theconnection of inner-city metro lines will bring many benefits to the community.
The metro line No. 5 – the first phase, is a priority project as it will serveas a transit system among other lines in the city.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen affirmed HCMCity’s determination to develop metro lines, including metro line No. 5.
The locality needs a lot of capital for these projects, he said, expressinghope the Spanish side will continue to support the city in the work.
Metro line No. 5 has total investment of 1.56 billion EUR (1.94 billion USD). Itsfirst phase has a total length of 9km, including 7.46 km of underground track and1.43km of elevated trails.-VNA
