 The southernmost provinceof Ca Mau is working hard to support local seafood businesses and achieve theyear’s seafood export target of 1.2 billion USD.

Theprovincial People’s Committee will takemeasures to improve the investment and business environment, and push aheadwith a project to ensure sustainable development of the shrimp industry.

Itwill offer incentives to encourage the use of advanced techniques in farmingand aquaculture and clean processing technologies to improve output and quality.

Chairmanof the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tien Hai has instructed relevant authorities tokeep a close watch on the situation and update local enterprises to help themproactively make business plans.

Theprovince Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been tasked withtraining farmers in aquaculture and ensuring availability of raw materials forseafood processing companies.

CaMau’s centre for investment promotion and business support plans to step uptrade stimulation and help firms find new partners for exports and enhancetheir competitiveness.

TheCa Mau seafood exporters and producers association offers its members promptmarket updates and urges them to join hands for export to strengthen theirbargaining power.

Accordingto the provincial Department of Industry andTrade, the newly ratified European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) will help Vietnam expand shrimp exports toEurope.

Localexport enterprises should strive to tap opportunities brought by the agreementto increase their exports of shrimp and other key products, it said.

Italso urged them to focus on the Chinese and Japanese markets where demand hasbegun to recover, and closely monitor other markets to take timely steps toboost exports.

Theprovince plans to raise shrimp output by 8 percent this year to around 210,000tonnes, with 200,000 tonnes being farmed and the rest caught at sea.

CaMau hopes these measures will help mitigate the losses caused by the pandemic,retain its markets and help farmers stabilise their activities.

CaMau has around 300,000ha under aquaculture, the largest area in Vietnam.

Itsannual earnings from aquaticproduct exports are nearly 1.2 billion USD on average./.
