Southern fruit festival opens

The southern fruit festival, the 13th of its kind, opened in Ho Chi Minh City on June 1, attracting visitors from far and wide.

HCM City (VNA) - Thesouthern fruit festival, the 13th of its kind, opened in Ho Chi Minh City onJune 1, attracting visitors from far and wide.

Opening the event was a paradeshow with the participation of hundreds of artists and tens of carriagesdecorated with giant and striking fruits, and a fashion show “Vietnam – EndlessBeauty” featuring typical cultures of the north, the central and the south.

Attracting crowds was a floatingmarket where more than 40 boats sell 150 kinds of fruits such as guava,rambutan, durian, strawberry, custard apple, grapefruit and palm fruit, amongothers, at 20-30 percent off market prices.

Additionally, visitors couldcontemplate fruit creations by artisans during a fruit decoration artcompetition.

Throughout the festival lasting August30, a number of activities will be held, including the ninth contest on southerndelicious and safe fruits, the Asia food festival and folk games.

The organising board will partnerwith 40 hotels of four to five stars to offer fruit parties to guests and broadcasta video clip popularising the festival to visitors at home and abroad.

Speaking at the event, Directorof the municipal Tourism Department Bui Ta Hoang Vu said the event is expectedto promote tourism and develop signature tourist products in the city.

The festival is a joint effortamong the municipal Tourism Department, Suoi Tien Cultural Theme Park andrelevant departments and agencies.-VNA
