Son Tra Peninsula: A world biosphere reserve site in the future

Son Tra Peninsula is a primeval forest with fresh and cool climate around the year. This is the only peninsula of Viet Nam with a forest ecosystem associated with the sea.
The Son Tra Peninsula is located in Son Tra district, central Da Nang City, around 10km northeast of the city centre. It has a total area of over 60sq.km. Son Tra has nearly 4,000ha of forest which is an exchange point of the two typical flora and faunaof the North and the South. Therefore, the Son Tra Peninsula was recognised as a nature reserve in 1992. On the way from Da Nang City to Son Tra Peninsula, visitors will immerse themselves in fresh nature of mountainous and forests. On the top of Son Tra Peninsula is Ban Co Peak.
In order to reach the Ban Co Peak, visitors have to go through a challenging winding road. It is called Ban Co Peak because according to legend, in the old times, two fairies chose this area to stop for resting and playing chest. That is why Son Tra Mountain is also called Tien Sa (fairies come down). Linh Ung Pagoda is another attractive site of Son Tra Peninsula. This place is famous for Guanyin statue, which is the highest statue in Viet Nam. In recent years, Da Nang City has increased investment in construction of tourism sites together with conservation. Its goals is to meet increasing demand of tourists while keeping the pristine appearance of this place, gradually making Son Tra Peninsula to become a world biosphere reserve site./.
