Soc Trang (VNA) – A painting made of STrice in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang has set a Vietnam record for thebiggest of its kind.

The provincial Department of Culture, Sports andTourism held a ceremony on November 22 to announce the record and kick off thefifth food street festival.

The painting, measuring 4 x 7 metres, was the result of 30 days' hard work by 10 artisans, aiming to promote thelocal specialty grain, towards agriculture-based tourism development, said director ofthe department Tran Minh Ly.

The festival will last until November 27with 34 booths by businesses and artisans in and outside Soc Trang.

The department said farmers last year planted332,700 hectares of rice and harvested more than 2 million tonnes with high-quality and specialty varieties like ST24, ST25, Tai Nguyen, RVT, and DaiThom 8 accounting for almost 92%.

The province has 21 concentrated specialty ricegrowing areas with a total area of 2,100ha.

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
