Soc Trang: Relief provided for saline affected farmers
The Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang is delivering support to local farmers affected by saltwater intrusion-caused damage of up to 569.2 billion VND (25.5 million USD).

Soc Trang (VNA)🥀 – The Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang is delivering support to local farmers affected by saltwater intrusion-caused damage of up to 569.2 billion VND (25.5 million USD).
The toll is predicted to continue mounting as localities across Soc Trang are still surveying the affected area, said Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Huynh Ngoc Van.
He added that the department asked the provincial authorities for an initial aid of 24.65 billion VND (1.1 million USD).
Data shows that 12,605 ha of rice in Soc Trang have been influenced by saltwater intrusion, leading to a loss of over 250.5 billion VND (11.2 million USD).
The phenomenon, which is also wreaking havoc across the Mekong Delta, where it has impacted 6,705 ha of sugar cane valued at nearly 305 billion VND (13.7 million USD).-VNA
The Vietnam Red Cross on March 29 gave 1,000 low-income households affected by saline intrusion in Giong Tom district, Ben Tre province containers and tools for storing and filtering water.
The Prime Minister has asked the Finance Ministry to allocate more than 5,200 tonnes of rice sourced from the national reserve, to five provinces suffering from the severe drought caused by El Nino.
A number of coastal provinces in the Mekong Delta which are located about 25-40 km from the sea are expected to welcome inflows of fresh water in April when the tide recedes.
