Smuggled elephant tusks seized in HCM City

Listed in the World Red Book,African ivory tusks are banned from importing and exporting. Vietnamhas forbidden both the trade of elephant tusks and the hunting ofelephants for tusks.

Sent from France toVietnam and declared as sample products, the goods, totally weighing14.6 kg, worth 3 billion VND (143,000 USD), were captured on August 1after running through customs check.

They were latersent to the Institute of Tropical Biology under the VietnamAcademy of Science and Technology for examination.

Further investigation into the case is underway.-VNA
