Tourists in Singapore can now check in faster at some hotels using facial recognition technology under a pilot programme to cut waiting times for visitors and reduce overloading for hotel staff.

Singapore (VNA) – Tourists inSingapore can now check in faster at some hotels using facial recognitiontechnology under a pilot programme to cut waiting times for visitors and reduceoverloading for hotel staff.
The programme was launched on November 7,allowing visitors to use a phone app fitted with facial recognition technologyor machines to scan their passports.
The data from the scan is sent to immigrationauthorities to check after which the visitor is issued a room key.
The technology, which has been trialed at threehotels, is similar to that used in some airports, including ChangiInternational Airport. It could reduce check-in time by up to 70 percent.
