Silicon Valley project helps new IT start-ups

A technology commercialisation project modelled after the Silicon Valley was launched in Hanoi on October 18.

The project is designed to help Vietnamese hi-tech business start-upsupgrade their products. At the same time, many experienced US expertsfrom Silicon Valley will offer them marketing tactics so that it willbe easier for them to attract venture capital, even if their productsare in the concept stage.

Successful start-ups are expected toforge a wave of innovations which will transform the whole economy withhi-tech and superior products, instead of low-value andlabour-intensive ones like now.

During the 2013-2014 period,promising start-ups will take training courses offered by SiliconValley experts. Once graduated, they will be invited to attend the DemoDay, a similar event held annually in the US where they are able toexperience the future of innovation and expand their contact lists.

A social investment fund named “Start-up Vietnam Foundation” will beset up to call for domestic and foreign investment while introducing newVietnamese business players to various venture funds and start-uptraining networks across the US.

According to Minister ofScience and Technology Nguyen Quan, thousands of universities, researchcentres, organisations and individuals both at home and abroad apply forpatents in Vietnam each year. However, how to commercialise themremains a challenge.-VNA

🍃 Vietnam launches six 4.0 technology training and talent networks

The networks bring together universities, research institutes and domestic and foreign businesses. Members will work closely in training, research, and technology transfer by sharing curricula, improving faculty capacity, providing access to laboratories and research facilities, and jointly implementing science and technology projects.

Vietnam is actively yet cautiously preparing for the construction of its first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan (now the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa). The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.

Vietnam has issued many key policies to support semiconductor development, notably the Politburo’s Resolution 57 on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Other initiatives include the Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, and the Human Resources Development Programme for the Semiconductor Industry.
