Seven deaths, four missing in floods reported in Thanh Hoa

Floods following downpours triggered by a tropical depression over the last few days had killed seven people and left four others missing in the central province of Thanh Hoa by 17:00 on October 11.

Thanh Hoa(VNA) – Floods following downpours triggered by a tropical depression over thelast few days had killed seven people and left four others missing in thecentral province of Thanh Hoa by 17:00 on October 11.

According to the province’s steering committeefor natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, torrential rains completelydamaged 39 houses while more than 6,000 others have been submerged byfloodwater.

Floods devastated over 400ha of rice, 20,000haof other crops, and 4.700ha of aquaculture areas. About 2.5 tonnes of harvestedrice and 1,000 cattle and poultry were also swept away.

Many mountainous communes such as Giao An, GiaoThien, Tam Van and Lam Phu of Lang Chanh district and Cam Chau of Cam Thuydistrict have been isolated by floodwater.

The provincial People’sCommittee and the steering committee for natural disaster prevention, searchand rescue sent working groups to inspect the situation and support localitiesto address flood consequences.-VNA
