Hanoi (VNA) – Enhancingconnectivity between foreign scientists and domestic universities andinstitutes is a basic solution to further boosting the application of roboticand mechatronic technology in different fields in Vietnam, experts havesuggested.

They raised the suggestion duringa seminar on “robotic and mechatronic technology in the fourth industrialrevolution: demand and solutions for Vietnamese firms”, which was co-hosted bythe Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Ministry of Science andTechnology and the Ministry of Planning and Investment in Hanoi on August 21.

The MoIT reported that the numberof Vietnamese enterprises using new technologies, especially core ones inindustry 4.0 in manufacturing, remains modest.

As over 97 percent of domesticbusinesses are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), they have metdifficulties regarding capital, technological expertise, human resources andinnovation capacity while their linkage with sci-tech organisations remainslimited.

Deputy Minister of Industry andTrade Cao Quoc Hung suggested that foreign scientists, domestic universitiesand research institutes should work closely together to conduct scientificstudies, open training courses, and hold scientific seminars.

He also expected them to offeradvices to Vietnamese enterprises in the process of renovating manufacturingtechnologies and developing new products.

Ho Anh Van, Director of Soft Robotics Lab, School of Materials Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), said apart from industrial production, robots could be used inagriculture, fruit picking, health care, care for the elderly and surgery

He added that JAIST is partneringwith Vietnamese researchers to pilot manufacturing robots and hoped that theycould be used more widely in the country in the near future.

The event attracted hundreds ofVietnamese technological experts and scientists from countries worldwide.-VNA

Members will work closely in training, research, and technology transfer by sharing curricula, improving faculty capacity, providing access to laboratories and research facilities, and jointly implementing science and technology projects.

Vietnam is actively yet cautiously preparing for the construction of its first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan (now the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa). The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.
